Implementing Ecosystem Research in the Maldives

Location – Maldives
Client – WEConnect International
Project Status – Ongoing

This project is part of a three-year project called “Women’s Empowerment Through Economic Inclusion,” which is funded by the US Department of State’s Bureau of South-Central Asian Affairs.

Our client, WEConnect International, is leading the project in the Indian Ocean region. WEConnect International is a corporate-led global non-profit that assists women-owned businesses in accessing and succeeding in global value chains.

This project ultimately seeks to:

i) Generate long-term opportunities for women-owned businesses (WOBs).

ii) Help women-owned connect and conduct business with large buyers, including local and multinational corporations, government agencies, and non-profit and non-governmental organisations.

iii) Identify the needs and capacity of WOBs, corporations and other key stakeholders and key market linkages in Maldives.

The project seeks to understand why few women business owners in the Maldives are winning procurement contracts from large organizations by conducting extensive mapping efforts in the Maldives, as well as to gain a clear understanding of the operations and challenges faced by women-owned businesses.
